Body Contouring

Body contouring is the perfect way to target problem areas of fat and cellulite. Sona treats loose skin and fat deposits with the skin tightening and body contouring device Accent XL. Most body contouring products focus only on contouring, not on tightening. The process of cool sculpting, for example, literally freezes fat cells to eliminate them. This freezing method can result in lumpy or uneven skin, and it doesn’t provide a way to tighten the skin – which is the critical difference in achieving visible long-term benefits.

How does it work?

The Accent XL offers such a unique treatment for body contouring because it utilizes the heat of two kinds of radiofrequency energy, UniPolar and BiPolar, to heat areas of fat and tighten the skin.

  • 01 / UniPolar Energy

UniPolar radiofrequency energy penetrates 1.5-2.0 cm into superficial fat and deep fat tissue layers for connective tissue, volumetric and adipose tissue improvements.
  • 02 / BiPolar Energy

BiPolar radiofrequency energy penetrates up to ½ cm into the superficial dermis and collagen for skin tightening.
  • 03 / Circulation

Treatment increases localized metabolism and blood circulation, resulting in more nutrient delivery and cellular waste removal.
  • 04 / Tightening

As a result of the heating process, current collagen shrinks to provide subtle immediate tightening and exponential amounts of new collagen fibers grow to support this toning effect.

Accent XL vs. Smart Lipo

The name is a bit misleading – smart lipo involves traditional liposuction. This process uses an invasive laser, which melts fat and cannula, to suck unwanted fat out of the body. Significant down time and post-surgery care are required. With the Accent XL, there is no surgery and no down time.

Accent XL vs. Liposuction

Liposuction is the surgical process of dissolving fat cells with chemical injections into areas of unwanted fat. The surgeon then sucks fat out with a large instrument called a cannula. Significant down time and post-surgery care are required. The Accent XL, on the other hand, is a non-surgical procedure that provides a more comfortable, non-invasive alternative to contouring the body.

Accent XL vs. Mesotherapy

Also called lipodissolve, mesotherapy is the process of destroying fat cells through the injection of chemicals into unwanted pockets of fat. With this treatment, there is a high risk factor and significant post-treatment side effects. In comparison, the Accent XL technology offers a safer, non-invasive solution to achieve successful body contouring results.

Accent XL vs. Body Wraps

The Accent XL provides a more comfortable and more effective treatment than the method known as the body wrap, or ionithermie. This is an outdated form of cellulite reduction based on the concept of osmosis, where product is introduced into superficial skin causing toxins to be expelled through the skin. Unlike the Accent XL, the body wrap process offers very short-term results.

What type of laser technology is used?

Accent XL

The Accent XL works by using dual layer RF (radio frequency) thermotherapy, gradually heating the dermal and subdermal tissue to tighten and re-contour both above and below the skin. Collagen fibers contract and multiply, which firms and improves the looseness of the treatment area. Connective tissue contracts to improve the skin’s contour, texture and shape. These non-invasive, non-surgical body contouring treatments are virtually pain-free and have no down time. Accent XL has been cleared by the FDA for skin tightening and for reduction in the appearance of cellulite.

How does it compare to other lasers?

Cool Sculpting

This non-invasive laser technology is designed to emulsify fat. The process literally freezes fat cells to eliminate them. This freezing method can result in lumpy or uneven skin, and it doesn’t provide a way to tighten the skin, unlike the technology of the Accent XL.

What to expect on the day of your treatment.

Sona works with you at every stage of your treatment to ensure your experience is as pleasant and comfortable as it can be. Here are some of the things you should know about your schedule on your treatment day.

A treatment room
  • Arrive at the center for your appointment and check in.
  • A nurse will escort you to the treatment room.
  • Change into a Sona robe in a private dressing room.
  • The nurse will apply baby oil to the area that will be treated.
  • The nurse uses two different Accent XL hand pieces to deliver differing levels of thermal energy.
  • Remaining baby oil is cleaned off and the nurse reviews post-treatment instructions.
  • Check out and schedule your next appointment.

What to expect: Physical and social down time.

Physical down time is typically associated with surgery, where you have to rest after a procedure and you can’t go about your daily life until a period of healing has occurred.

Social down time refers to the recovery time you need to feel more comfortable with your appearance, although you aren’t physically restricted from doing any of your typical daily tasks. Treatment with the Harmony system pulls the pigment to the surface of the skin, and as a result clients experience “crusting,” which looks like very dark or prominent freckling. This is a temporary condition, but could raise questions from coworkers – so you may want to consider waiting a couple of days to return to work.
